It's really gettin' a lil`friendlier: MASSACRE are on the list. If last year was the Trash-revival, this summer we'll go direction Death.

Direction Death is OK by me, Granny. NILE would be a nice cherry atop a fine death-cake.
About The Haunted. I always thought they were At The Gates but they changed the name, like Nihilist did when they became Entombed.
Are they now two completely different bands? Care to fill in the blanks anyone? I know little about band members, caring only about music.

I believe that At The Gates split up shortly after their success with "Slaughter of the Soul". The shouter Thomas Lindberg sang in several bands afterwards e.g. Nightrage (Descent Into Chaos) and The Crown (Crowned In Terror - superb record!!!). The brothers Anders and Jonas Björler came along with their new formation The Haunted to celebrate their idea of Deaththrash. WOA will see both formations which I am really lookin`forward to. Any Kamelot fans in the Room?

Autsch! Now Grandma is in trouble. Did not buy the ticket so far - stoopid ass I am. Had to pay for Swedenrock and what happens? They sell out! So if anybody knows somebody with a ticket, better two 'cause Grandma`s little brother wanted to come with her this year, scream for me.

Oh dear, if you were a wrestler, we'd all be shouting "YOU FUCKED UP! YOU FUCKED UP!"
What happened Grandma? I thought you'd got it in the bag already. Unfortunately I don't have a spare ticket, but you should put your name on the waiting list at Metaltix. I hear they will release some more tickets closer to the day.
Otherwise, it's a trip over to Ebay for Grandma I'm afraid!

Yeah, that is what I was thinking of already, but there will be no waiting list this year. Thing is to wait a couple of weeks, 'cause on ebay and other platforms they sell the tickets for about 220 Euros and rising. If anything goes wrong: as I will be already in Itzehoe one week before, for the HOA I will be searching (and if needed destroying) there. Things will work out fine, I bet!

I really hate to say it, but it's official: Grandma will not visit the WOA this year. Let me explain the reasons: The problem with the ticket (my fault) gave me pause (too long) to think this year's plan over. Financially it would have been a major act to move to Sweden, Headbangers and Wacken. It would have meant that I had to work every weekend during my term = seven days a week. So far so good, but I am in the last term and have to write my final exams at the end of it. Timeproblems occure. Furthermore and this was the decisive reason: the billing. Compared to the other big festivals (Sweden, Graspop, Gods of Metal, even Download) the WOA offers a rather weak billing. Of course many might disagree, however WOA-Billing-2008 does not fulfill Grandma's Metaltaste as it did in the last years. I will almost see all the bands I really wanted to see in Wacken on Headbangers and in Sweden. When Exodus was confirmed for Headbangers my decision was fixed. Maiden was a problem, but I will move to Prague for cheap 70 Euros (ticket, plus train) to get caught somewhere in time. It is a shame that we will not meet this year to drink some Jaegi. I really thought hard about the possibilities... well

Oh damn shame. Still, economics prevail. I only make one festival a yer and I choose Wacken evry time. To be quite honest, the music comes second to the occasion of Wacken. Don't get me wrong, if the line up was indeed a steaming pile of dingo's kidneys, I would hesitate before going. And you are right in that Download does have a strong line up this year - not least the Metal Gods themselves Judas Priest, but the whole atmosphere of Download stinks and the people are generally not worthy of lacing a burly Wacken-goer's size twelves.
I am however 90% certain of making Bloodstock Open Air this year, as the new/old line up of Iced Earth has proved an immensely tempting prospect for me. So maybe for the first time in this metalhead's gigging career, I can manage two festivals in the same year - hell, the same MONTH!
It will be a sad loss not to spend the annual Jagermeister WrestleFest in the company of everyone's favourite Grandma, and this year would have been an especially dangerous meeting, as the mighty Mjolnir will be celebrating his fourth decade of agression - yes he will be 40 years young only a week before Wacken. Not only that but it will also be a fond farewell, as he will be moving to the land of dollars, liposuction and watered down pissy beer, and making a new life in the good old US of A.
Not that I would want Grandma to embark on a great guilt trip you understand...

The Bloodstock billing sounds pretty nice. I liked Dimmu Borgir's performance last year in Wacken although I'm not really a Dimmuhead or even something more stoopid...; a lil' singin' with Primal Fear, the Overkill-Party, Destruction, Iced Earth and the mighty Kataklysm. Good plan. I agree that the atmosphere counts at least as much as the billing. We have two real huge festivals here in Germany, Rock am Ring/Rock im Park (attendance 100000/70000) which I used to visit a couple of years ago, but the audience grew younger and younger and, well, non-Metal. Still Meatllica, In Flames, etc. are playin' these two festivals, but I did not waste one thought to move there. WOA is Metal. Fact. The spirit, the vibe is uncomparable. But this year as I said, the billing lost to Swedenrock: by name, Ratt, Bach, Ace, Satyricon, Hanoi Rocks and foremost Poison. All of them (except Bach), blanks in my catalogue. Of course there is no guarantee that all of them will rule the place, but I think at least some of them will. (Besides the mentioned lots of other interesting features, e.g. At The Gates, Carcass, Ministry). Sweden has a vibe of its own. More classic, less Death or Black. More sleazy than New. That does not make a value statement, but it is a statement of speciality (in Europe). Damn, Mjolnir is becoming an Americano? Wow, pretty surprising. I hope that you - Mjolnir - will not be hindered to come to the WOA next year. Good luck with everything anyway. A shame that we cannot party your birthday. I will be mentally with you.

Machine Head just got confirmed today. They will apparently be playing the "best of" set, presumably on the Thursday Night To Remember slot.
Good announcement for me, and makes up for the fact they are only the support act on the Slipknot tour this year.
I will be buying The Blackening special edition when it comes out - the day before my birthday! Maybe I can convince the wife to put her hand in her pocket LOL.

Never seen Cathedral before and not really into their stuff. I will check out some songs in the next days. Machine Head!!!! Yes, master! The Blackening to Grandma is one of the best five albums in the last ten years and I have not heard these masterpieces live so far. This will be a fuckin war! Let freedom ring ... Besides: I am planning to do the 2 week trip this year which means Headbanger's Openair (confirmed so far: Angel Witch, Q5 with Floyd Rose, Tankard, Tyson Dog, Paradox, Bullet) and after it WOA. If anybody is interested. The HOA really is worth the visit. One of the best festivals in Europe I have been to. And it is 10 kilometres from Itzehoe!

Festival plans for 2009? WOA is again SOLD OUT - at XXX-Mas: Unbelievable. It is because of the Movie 'Full Metal Village' which was a big success in Germany. Mainstream. I definitely will go to Headbanger's OpenAir again and to 80% to Balingen ... and I got a ticket for AC/DC; good for my ROD-record ...

No W:O:A for me this year. Sold out too early, not enough big names to warrant the trip, and the strength of the Euro against the weakness of the Pound means that approx 1 euro = 1 pound. Too expensive for me.
However, Bloodstock this year looks incredible, with Sabaton, Amon Amarth Saxon and many other big names making this festival seem very interesting to me. Because of no Wacken this year I will be at Bloodstock.
I was actually making plans to attend Hellfest this year for Manowar alone, but it also has an amazing line up. But alas, I cannot go for the reasons stated above involving the exchange rate situation.
Upcoming gigs for me include Judas Priest/Megadeth/Testament, Children Of Bodom/Cannibal Corpse and Metallica/Machine Head/The Sword, all occuring in February. Amon Amarth/Obituary/Legion Of The Damned/Keep Of Kalessin in March. And Saxon/Iced Earth in April.
