Odin's beard, dunno if I can manage a top 15 to top that, but here is my alternative top ten, not including any of yours.
10. New World Order They may have stolen the song from Jimi Hendrix, but when it hit, you were guaranteed to see a load of high level players congregate in the ring and hand someone's ass to them in a classic nWo beatdown. The sight of Hogan stood there air guitaring in the middle of the ring is iconic to say the least.
9. Randy "The Ram" Robinson While this is not strictly a real wrestling theme, but a movie character's, the movie The Wrestler portrayed a beat up, broken down shell of a man desperately trying to hold onto the only thing he knows, and in stark contrast to his mundane life, when the Quiet Riot song Metal Health hit the speakers, The Ram became every bit the superstar he ever was. This honest portrayal reminded me of men like Jake Roberts and Randy Savage, whose private lives were often too much of a burden for them as they sought to live as their in-ring personas to escape the banality. I am sure many wrestlers have used this song in the past - I know of at least one Combat Zone guy that uses it - and as such feel it belongs here with these gems.
8. Shawn Michaels For almost 20 years HBK has had the same song, intro'd by the screeching Sensational Sherri Martel's "Oh Shawn! Shawn!", and no other song could ever suit him. I know you hate him Mjollers for the very kayfabe reason of sweet-chinning Marty and launching him through the Barber Shop window, but you are in the minority who do not mark when they hear the opening strains of that song.
7. Goldust When the shimmering opening chord came over the P.A., and everything became bathed in gold, a disturbing experience was at hand, as the bizarre one's music was as dramatic as his persona. It's true what he said, we have never forgotten the name of "... GOLDUST!"
6. Tazz Yes, I have to disagree on Booker T being the most underused wrestler in WWF history. When that deep heatbeat sounded, and the Human Suplex Machine marched down the ramp, you new somebody was gonna get got.
5. Mankind I'm talking about the original Mankind music. The haunting orchestral tune which reminded us of a tortured and trapped soul who yearned to find an outlet for his mental anguish. When he staggered to the ring, and sat cross-legged in the middle of the canvas tearing out clumps of his own hair, this was a sign that the next person the climb through the ropes was gonna leave in a lot of pain.
4. Edge Whilst Edge has had more than his fair share of entrance themes over the years, his most recent song by Altar Bridge, whilst not really the type of rock I normally like, came to embody the Rated R Superstar and his Rock 'n' Roll image so much that whenever the opening line "You think you know me?" came over the speakers, the crowd popped in such a way that you could tell the guy was on an instant high before he even emerged into the arena. Rarely was a wrestler as over as Edge was, and this song helped tremendously in shaping the legend he became.
3. Matt Hardy It was always great to hear the pop when a heel had just entered the ring and all was quiet, then the opening "Oh yeah...!" was yelled out as Monster Magnet blared over the P.A. Whilst Matt tended to job more often than not, in his heyday, he was amongst the most popular stars who ever laced up a pair. This song absolutely helped him find his way as a singles competitor and break away from the shackles of his wayward brother. It really is hard to determine which of the two had the bigger fanbase, as they both hit new heights in popularity when they split. It is a real shame they have fallen on hard times, the pair of them. It seems now though, that Matt may be in a darker place than Jeff, which is surprising as I always viewed his as the enlightened one out of the two.
2. CM Punk This is actually two for the price of one, as previously, Punk had a Killswitch Engage song as his entrance theme for several years. Again, whilst I don't like the band's music, this song seemed so right and fitting for CM Punk that it was very difficult to imagine seeing him walk to the ring to any other tune. That was until very recently when he kayfabe returned after signing a new contract, and emerged to the Living Colour classic Cult Of Personality. It seems to me as though he must have some influence over what music he uses for his ring entrance, as this is just perfect. He is more over now than I ever remember, even in ROH, and it's great to see him basking in the limelight whilst this great song echoes around the arena.
1. Chris Jericho When Y2J made his WWF debut in 1999, it was the worst kept secret ever, but when the countdown finally finished, the music exploded and he stood there at the top of the ramp silhouetted with his arms outsretched, a star was born. To this day - possibly with the exception of Taker - no other wrestler had more suitable music.
