I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of former Quiet Riot vocalist Kevin Dubrow. He was found dead on Sunday in his Vegas apartment. Cause of death is unknown at the moment, but authorities are not suspecting any foul play, which is good.
I loved Quiet Riot back in the early formative years of my metal journey, and still like to hear them today. I always remember the song Metal Health, with it's awesome chorus -"Bang your head! Dah-dah... Metal health will drive you mad!" I was massively surprised and thrilled when it cropped up as one of the radio tunes in the Grand Theft Auto game Vice City.
He had a great traditional metal voice that parents loved to hate, with his ear splitting screams and raspy guttural style. i also remember him most of all from the Hear 'n' Aid charity song "Stars", where along with writer Ronnie James Dio, was a major contributor to what I consider to be a minor metal classic.
So what a shame to lose DuBrow at only 52 years old. A measure of how respected and well-loved he was in the metal community are the scores of tributes which have poured out this week, most notably on Blabbermouth, where everyone has great things to say about him.
Rest In Peace Kev. May you bang your head for evermore.
