The other day I watched Tenacious D in The Pick Of Destiny. It is AMAZING!
I am pretty sure Jack Black is a genius. The music and dialogue are incredibly clever and self-referential, and really struck a chord with me and everything I love about metal.
For those who intend to see it, stop reading now as there are [glow=red,2,300]SPOILERS[/glow] below.
Basically the story involves Jack, a struggling musician who becomes enlightened by a visit from the Good Lord Himself, Ronnie James Dio. Dio tells him of a magical guitar pick - The Pick Of Destiny, which was fashioned from one of Satan's teeth which the Dark Lord lost during a battle. Satan can never return to despoil Earth again until he is reunited with his lost tooth.
Over the years the tooth became lost until one day in the 1920's, it emerged in the American Deep South in hands of one Robert Johnson. From then it was passed down through the hands of the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen and Angus Young.
Yes, the satanic pick enables the possessor to play the guitar with demonic skill, which is why Jack Black and his new mate Kyle Gass embark on the mission to steal it from a museum.
It really is a farce movie with loads of knob jokes and fart jokes and generally low-brow obscene toilet humour, but as a whole it is enchanting and very very funny, with some truly unique musical interludes.
For metal fans, this is our TOMMY or PURPLE RAIN. Just a hell of a lot funnier.
And it's got Dio in it.

Tis a very funny film, but when you see Ben Stiller (as the guitar shop assistant who knows the history of the P.O.D.) did you not think he looked more than a little like Corp's very own Mutley?

Yeah, Stiller almost stole the show with that scene. I nearly wet myself when, after all the mysterious lighting and whispering, they simply switch on the light.
Lord Ron's cameo at the beginning was a moment to savour also.
