Last Friday 15th of June, it was announced that Sherri Martel had died at the age of 49. The cause of death is still unclear.
I have never been nor probably ever will be a fan of women's wrestling, but Sherri Martel made the switch from wrestler to highly successful heel manager probably better than most. As the manager of "Macho King" Randy Savage, "Sensational Queen" Sherri guided Savage through one of his most memorable stints, and later hooked up with the fledgling heel Shawn Michaels during his most productive years prior to DX.
And who can forget her association with Shane Douglas during the first years of ECW when she managed him to his first ECW Championship, which he binned and renamed the company Extreme Championship Wrestling?
As irritating as she was, she had the desired effect of creating heat to surround a new heel, and in doing so wrote herself into much of wrestling's most treasured history.
Rest In Peace "Sensational" Sherri Martel 1958-2007

Reading the sad news of the death of one "Sensational Sherri" I wanna say at least for one time that the Wrestling lifestyle with all its consequences - the injuries, the psychlogical pressure to serve the storylines, the constant training and travelling - cannot be compared to any other job in the show business. You have to be an actor, a rockstar and an athlet at one time - with no breaks unless you suffer and rehabilitate from an injury. No wonder they die young! You really make a deal with the devil by choosing to be part of the Wrestling bizz. I still can hear Queen Sherri's insulting screams when she was jumping up and down in front of the ring to encourage her man. In this case Randy Savage. She definitely contributed in Savages final turn to become a babyface again and run back into Elisabeth's arms. Remember the mixed match Savage/Sherri vs Dusty Rhodes/Saphire? I think Sherri beat the shit out of rather non-athletic Saphire. Sherri also was the only women wrestler I can remember that took the confrontation to go one on one with the Ultimate Warrior (!) in an excellent match vs Savage , I think at Wrestlemania VII. So RIP Sherri Martel.
