From Blabbermouth...

So exodus are re-recording their classic 1985 debut Bonded By Blood. At first I was miffed to say the least. BBB is after all possibly the band's best album, even though it's nearly a quarter of a century old.
Plus I had concerns that this may disrespect the legacy of the late great singer Paul Baloff.
But then I noticed it is going to be a tribute to the great man, and breathed a sigh of relief when I read that each song will be sung by a different singer.
Not that I dislike Rob Dukes - in fact I reckon he is better than Zetro Souza - but just that I thought it might be a shameless cash-in on their part.
I now find the whole project very interesting indeed, and applaud Exodus for taking such a risky and bold step in the face of the inevitable wave of criticism they will recieve from the "faithful".
I'm licking my lips in anticipation of who might be some of the guest vocalists. For a start, I hope Mark Osegueda of Death Angel sings the title track.
It also got me thinking again about some other bands who I always hoped might re-record some of their earlier albums.
For instance, Slayer touched on it some years ago (22?) when they did a re-recorded version of Aggressive Perfector on the B side of Criminally Insane. That version fucking OWNED the original in my opinion, even though the original was only recorded two or three years previously.
It got me wishing they would give the same treatment to Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits. Now, everyone knows what classics these are, but I'm sure everyone will also agree that the production and musicianship of Reign In Blood were light years ahead of those first two offerings.
But with Iron Maiden, I wanted them to remake the debut and Killers for different reasons - one in particular - Bruce.
When they did the re-recordings of Charlotte The Harlot and Prowler back in the late 80's, I realised how far they had progressed as a band in the ten years or so since their debut, and how great a singer Bruce Dickinson was/is.
But I have reservations about bands re-recording the material of singers who are no longer with us, unless it is done in good taste, as this new Exodus project appears to be.
I would never like AC/DC to give any of the Bon Scott albums the modern day treatment.
Firstly because I believe Brian Johnson is vastly inferior to Scott, and secondly because I don't like the band's modern sound since their last great album For Those About To Rock...
So that would be kinda defeating the object in my mind.
But there certainly are many other bands who I would like to hear re-recorded albums of.
I mean, just imagine how brutally precise Pleasure To Kill would sound nowadays.
Or maybe even Kill Em All...?
