Without a doubt. It is a classic amongst classics. If it were not for Jaws there would have never been an Independence Day, or a Lord Of The Rings, or even a Star Wars. At least not as we know them today.
Jaws was THE original blockbuster, but it is way more than that. It is a story of humour, of tragedy and of humility in the face of seemingly unstoppable forces of nature. And it has one of the best scripts I have ever heard, acted out by some of the most perfect casting choices ever seen. Steven showed his genius at such a tender age, and refused to compromise or stray from his original vision. When - or more likely IF - Steven Spielberg ever dies, I hope he remembers Jaws as his masterpiece.
Next discussion: Close Encounters Of The Third Kind - classic or not??

'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' is by far THE Sci-fi Classic of All Time? It is way above anything that the Other Beard ever did, although 'Empire Strikes Back' did come close? CEotTK is a work of love for a subject that many now take as given? If it wasnt for this film, many many film wouldnt have been made. If you've seen this film as many times as i have, you will know that its not all about the Spaceships But its the Human side to the story,How can Neary tell anyone without sounding insane ect..And its Subtle use of incidental characters with the best Dialogue ala 'Eistein was right', 'Einstein was probebly one of them?'. Pure Genius!! That makes this film a Classic above most Classics!! 10/10..

Right, classic or not? This could be a real bone of contention here, but I believe The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy is beyond classic.
The Fellowship was the perfect opening for the trilogy, and established the whole story and characters very well, and omitted just enough of Tolkien's original book so as not to become incoherent or cause this fanboy to yell "Hey, where the fuck was Tom Bombadil?" It is almost perfect as a movie, and easily equals the first Star Wars movie.
The Two Towers took elements of the first and second book and expanded upon the Gollum/Smeagol character to create an extremely dark and epic film, following the group's split and subsequent adventures, and also concentrated on the perfectly portrayed Saruman as he turned to the dark side (yes, I know... fuck off). Add to this some of the greatest battle scenes ever realised on film, and you have a middle chapter worthy of any trilogy.
And so we come to Return Of The King... For me this is the best of the trilogy, not only because of the splendid action sequences and monstrous battle scenes, but mainly because of the emphasis on the , and the men of Rohan and Gondor, and the sheer magnitude of the task at hand. Here, Samwise Gamgee emerges as the real hero of the trilogy, and Strider steps up to lead the free men of Middle Earth to a mighty triumph at the gates of Mordor. If your heart does not swell as you see Aragorn hold aloft the great sword of Narsil to lead the charge, then you're frankly not human, dude.
Much has been made of the many false endings of the film, but to me, a saga so vast as this needs proper closure, and sometimes one ending just isn't enough.
So the scores from me are: Fellowship Of The Ring = 9/10 Two Towers = 9/10 Return Of The King = 10/10
And the final verdict from me is - FUCKING CLASSICS THE LOT OF THEM.

Fellowship Is a Classic no Question about it but i'd rather watch 13th Warrior for sword and shield type fighting anyday and Where did the story go from hours 3 through 10+?? And.....my main gripe with Return is that my F**kin arse went numb after 2 and a half hours and i still had a good hour to go and then with said numb derriair i had to endure all those fookin false endings when after each one i said.."ahh,good it's off"..and then it goes again and again and again..Well, by this time i was well and truely pissed off and i nearly fell over when i finally got out of me friggin seat cause me legs had gone to sleep and then there was a huuuge Q for the pisser as all the other blokes in the cinema had the same holdy in problem i had...God damn you Jackson... BUT............Check out my new thread, under Jackson!!! He may have made ammends at last!!
