Turisas - Battle Metal Turisas - The Varangian Way Tyr - Ragnarok Aha!! Look at Ezzy with his Viking Battle Metal. You'll be on Air Berlin with us next year, I guarantee it boyo. Not listened to much this week - working nights. But last week I had mostly been listening to... DISSECTION - Reinkaos (got into these too late, the singer died last year) BATHORY - Hammerheart (the original Viking Metal album) UNLEASHED - Midvinterblot (full-on death metal at it's most brutal) REBELLION - Miklagard: The History Of The Vikings volume II (a great discovery, who sound a bit like Iced Earth) LEGION OF THE DAMNED - Sons Of The Jackal (the best album never released in 1987) AINA - Days Of Rising Doom: The Metal Opera (yes, it's true - and awesome) BENEDICTUM - Uncreation (quality power metal with a girl singer who worships Dio even more than me) I - Between Two Worlds (ace metal supergroup) KEEP OF KALESSIN - Armada (very extreme yet strangely very melodic) MUNICIPAL WASTE - Hazardous Mutation (the best thing D.R.I. never did) ROTTING CHRIST - Theogonia (one of the albums of this year, from Greece of all places...) And right now as I type, I have on the new Tankard album, The Beauty And The Beer. They still rule.

Good for you. Excellent for you. The new album comes quite after Diabolical. "The Mirrors of my Soul" and "Plutonium Reveries" are the best they wrote in the last years, but that don't mean that the other albums were weak. But this one just is a killer! Amon Amarth are hitting my stereo, `cause I'm going to see them in three weeks in Balingen (for the 6th time or something). So march.

Well, well today we had Edguy "Rocket Ride" (Balingen's Headliner), Mystic Prophecy "Never Ending" (Pure Powermetal) and "Holy Dio", one of the best Tribute Samplers I know. Blind Guardian, Grave Digger, Hammerfall, Gamma Ray, Jag Panzer, Fates Warning and many others celebrate Mr Dio.

I have the Holy Dio album also. I features a great version of my favourite Dio song - Egypt (The Chains Are On) by Doro Pesch. And Gamma Ray's Kill The King is only bettered by Primal Fear's version of the same song!

Good Tribute Albums are hard to find. I also accept Blitzkrieg over You (Ramones). On that one German Punk Bands cover Dee Dee and Co. e.g. Die Aerzte, Die Toten Hosen, Hass, Nina Hagen, Sigi Pop, Rastaknast or MĂ–pedhead. I think "kiss my ass" is also great, with Anthrax coverin' "She", and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones perform "Detroit Rock City" in a kinda Ska version, but very fast and brutal.

That new King Billy album is pretty amazing man. (and I thought it was only me who called him that...) I reckon it's his best album since THEM.
I hear he's hurt his back though, so we may not see him on the road for some time yet. He just cancelled the tour last week.
I just got the new Vital Remains album, Icons Of Evil. Very, very fucking heavy indeed. Some of the most brutal machine gun drumming I ever heard. Proper solid death metal purely for all us old bangers out there.
The new Scorpions album, Humanity Hour I is also worth a good listen. It kind of reminds me of Alice Cooper's Brutal Planet, being very downtuned compared to the classic Scorpions sound. There's also a bit of Lovedrive influence creeping in there at a couple of points. Oddly, the first song starts off sounding suspiciously like VOIVOD, a connection I would never have previously made about Scorpions.
Having just got the new NILE album also, could be a summer of classic albums, this. Fingers crossed that Iced Earth's new LP don't disappoint.
